Oh The Office...

It's really cool, last week's episode of The Office was directed by Joss Whedon of Firefly/Serenity fame. And it was really funny, it carried that fun, dry banter and great timing you'd see in stuff Whedon directs.

And tonight the episode was directed by J.J. Abrams (Alias). Just weird that there's these fan favorite directors doing episodes of The Office... okay, maybe not weird, cause I am totally diggin it.

huh

So I'm driving to dinner the other night, and there's this bit on the radio where the DJ's are talking about how News Networks more and more have become concerned more with entertainment then actual news. It got to a point where they sampled a actual radio spot, the headline being, "Hip hop, art or poison".

I don't know. Seems funny.

Why I hate the weather...

...okay nevermind the fact that the weather in KC blows in the winter. I mean, it just does. But here's the thing, at the start of the week, this Friday was to be sunny and 65. ROCK, right? Well, no. Cause now it's gonna be raining, still warm I guess, but rain.

It's unfortunate as it looked to be a great day for a bbq... sadly no more.

Just one more reason why I hate the weather.

Getting back into it...

Whew, so for the first time in the 3 years I have been at my job I went to the workout room at work. Hit 25 min on the treadmill (don't applaud me yet, I walked not ran), then 3 sets of 10 on the machines. And let me just tell you, I am out of shape! Which is really no surprise, but still, just sayin'.

On a total different note, as I type this a Pizza Hut Cheezy Bites commercial came on with Jessica Simpson doing a bit. I guess she decided to go all platinum blonde? Yea, dosen't look good, she kinda looks like a $10 dollar hooker.

Anyways, thoughts for the day... or night.

Sometimes...

...just sometimes I love my freelance clients. Today for instance I met and spoke with 2 of them. And both are great people/companies to do work for. Very open, and collaborative and it's really refreshing. I don't know, lately... maybe more then lately I have noticed relationships being taken for granted and to re-immerse myself with those clients today, you can't help but feel good, and recognize the importance of relationships, wherever they lie.

Moral of the story: hold close the people in your life. And if you don't find them important, well, tell them that too.

oh sad day...

So word on the street is that Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip is going to be cancelled.

It always seems to be the case with well written, smart shows...

Just a shame.

The Sensitivity of Motion Sensors...

...especially the ones that operate public toilets.

See, the thing of it is, I go to the movies with Kate, and of course, before the show, I need to hit the bathroom. I go in, and the tiolet is disgusting, but it's what you got, so you try and clean. I mean, really, you wouldn't want to sit on the crap I was seeing. Anyways, I grab one of those paper seat covers, no problem.

WRONG!

Everytime I ripped one out, punch the hole, the fucking motion sensor would kick in and flush the tiolet as soon as I put the cover down, essentailly sucking it away. This happened over the next four times, and just sucked! Now keep in mind, I needed to take a dump... things were just not working for me.

Let me tell you, like Kramer and the coffee, Motion Sensors can be TOO sensnitive.

What's up with that?

Okay so the girlfriend likes to say, how should we say, mean things from time to time. As jokes mind you, but anyway. She would say, "You know you're the only person I can say that stuff to with a striaght face, I don't know why?"

So I don't know how I feel about that.

Anyways, I'm at my League Bowling night the other night. Yea, I know, I'm in a bowling league, it's through work, but whatever. Anyway. Last night. There was a girl on the opposing team, and she says to me, "I like it when we bowl together, cause I like talking smack to you..."

WHAT WAS THAT?

Seriously, what is it with the ladies and putting this man down? Seriously people. Serious.

Where's the love for the Old School...

Seriously, what a disappointment. Of the nominees for "Best Animated Picture", you most certainly have a lack luster display. In it you have: Cars, Happy Feet, and Monster House. Now to be fair, Pixar has never disappointed, though I was not driven (no pun intended) to see a picture about talking cars. With Happy Feet, something about having Robin William's character be the focus of early trailer spots was a big turn off. And truthfully, you're not gonna grab me by showing me a legion of dancing penguins.

But then there's Monster House, which I did see. And by no means warranted an nomination. Sure visually it was stunning, but there was nothing new here from a story perspective. And even if it was stunning to look at, it's nothing new.

Now I am sure all three would fall into the category of an excellent family picture. But is that what this Oscar® category is about? Family friendly? Because outside of being your standard family fare, there really anything else here, these pictures do not say anything beyond that. It just begs to question the Academy's criteria for selection, especially when you had (non-CG) pictures like Satoshi Kon's Paprika submitted for consideration.

It's just unfortunate that CGI pictures seem to dominate this category, regardless of story. More and more it seems like studios are focused on the technology and less and less about the story. The traditional animated picture seems to be a lost art nowadays. I would offer that it's more an art to draw a picture then build one. I look forward to the next animated picture by hand... whenever it may come.

Nerves...

So I got nerve issues...

In my thumb that is. Turns out I have some weird compression of my nerves in my right hand that is causing my thumb to be numb. The compression stemming from carpel tunnel, which I blame work and video games for... well not the games, how could I blame the games.

Anyway, nerve issues. Had a brace... but turns out may have been the wrong size, so gotta go size up. Seriously, ready for my right hand back.

Oh how I love you ATHF

Okay, those of you not in the know, last Wednesday (January 31st), areas of Boston were shut down due to the discovery of strange and mysterious devices that were thought to be bombs. During the shutdown Boston Police quickly discovered that they were not bombs, but in fact electronic signs featuring the popular character from Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Ignignokt (aired on the Cartoon Network, owned by Turner Broadcasting).

To Boston’s credit Police and other law enforcement offices throughout the city responded quickly and admirably to a foreign object. But seriously people, these devices were signs. SIGNS. There was no depth to these “devices” to denote TERRORIST BOMB! It was a flippin’ sign. Even at a glance you can clearly see, sign, not bomb, sign. Again, I’m not being critical of the law enforcement in this matter, but more Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick who said, “It's a hoax—and it's not funny.”

Well, I’m sorry Governor Patrick, but saying it’s a hoax denotes intent to deceive that they were in fact bombs. BUT THEY WEREN’T! they were flippin’ signs! In addition, I was listening to the morning radio on the way to work, in which this story made the air, and in typical DJ fashion they threw out comments like, “Helllllloooo, have you heard of 9/11?”

Ok, last time people. SIGNS! They were flippin’ signs.

Maybe the marketing campaign was a bad call on part of the Cartoon Network, personally I thought it was brilliant, but the arrogance to call this a “hoax”, insinuating that the people at Cartoon Network are not sensitive to the event of 9/11… really, people, get your head out of your asses, they were signs.

Not only that, there were in place for 3 weeks, and in 10 cities. By in large Governor Patrick, your citizens knew they were signs, not bombs.

So seriously, let those guys you arrested on trumped up charges GO! And kudos to Cartoon Network for issuing a apology for the ensuing chaos their campaign caused. And seems to be doing everything in their power to make things right.

Man… SIGNS!

Kudos to you DC Comics

Seriously, kudos to DC Comics. Why you ask? Well, they’re making it easier for retailers to carry more diverse products in the Direct Market. Those of you not in the know, Direct Market vs. Newsstand is a little more of a gamble for Retailers, mainly because in the Direct Market you can’t return product like you can in Newsstand.

So why is significant?

Well in response to the rising popularity of shojo (girls) manga, DC Comics is coming out with what it calls it’s Minx line. Specifically aimed at a young girl audience. But it’s first title, The P.L.A.I.N. Janes, which is about a new girl in town who bands all the outcasts together to do some good. But with a lack of spandex, action, paranormal, blahblahblah will it sell?

Enter DC Comics who will make this first title returnable. And that makes it easier for Retailers to carry more diverse products in the Direct Market.

Kudos to you DC, kudos.
