Okay, those of you not in the know, last Wednesday (January 31st), areas of Boston were shut down due to the discovery of strange and mysterious devices that were thought to be bombs. During the shutdown Boston Police quickly discovered that they were not bombs, but in fact electronic signs featuring the popular character from Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Ignignokt (aired on the Cartoon Network, owned by Turner Broadcasting).
To Boston’s credit Police and other law enforcement offices throughout the city responded quickly and admirably to a foreign object. But seriously people, these devices were signs. SIGNS. There was no depth to these “devices” to denote TERRORIST BOMB! It was a flippin’ sign. Even at a glance you can clearly see, sign, not bomb, sign. Again, I’m not being critical of the law enforcement in this matter, but more Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick who said, “It's a hoax—and it's not funny.”
Well, I’m sorry Governor Patrick, but saying it’s a hoax denotes intent to deceive that they were in fact bombs. BUT THEY WEREN’T! they were flippin’ signs! In addition, I was listening to the morning radio on the way to work, in which this story made the air, and in typical DJ fashion they threw out comments like, “Helllllloooo, have you heard of 9/11?”
Ok, last time people. SIGNS! They were flippin’ signs.
Maybe the marketing campaign was a bad call on part of the Cartoon Network, personally I thought it was brilliant, but the arrogance to call this a “hoax”, insinuating that the people at Cartoon Network are not sensitive to the event of 9/11… really, people, get your head out of your asses, they were signs.
Not only that, there were in place for 3 weeks, and in 10 cities. By in large Governor Patrick, your citizens knew they were signs, not bombs.
So seriously, let those guys you arrested on trumped up charges GO! And kudos to Cartoon Network for issuing a apology for the ensuing chaos their campaign caused. And seems to be doing everything in their power to make things right.
Man… SIGNS!
